When AFI was founded in 1967, one of its purposes was to ensure that "great accomplishments of the past are recognized to the end that the masters of film may take their deserved place in history beside leaders in other arts."
The AFI Life Achievement Award honors an individual whose career in motion pictures or television has greatly contributed to the enrichment of American culture.
The 42nd AFI Life Achievement Award was presented to Jane Fonda at a gala tribute on June 5, 2014 in Los Angeles, California. The 42nd AFI Life Achievement Award tribute special will return for its second year on TNT when it airs on June 14, 2014 at 9 p.m. ET/PT, followed by encores on sister network Turner Classic Movies (TCM).
