Cynthia Rowley Workout-Wear Added to Resort 2015

After establishing a name in the surf-wear category, Cynthia Rowley is taking the concept to a whole new level for Resort 2015, adding workout-wear to the mix. "It's functional fitness gear," said the designer of the new range, which is developed in-house and fashioned out of a bonded fabric that feels lighter and more luxurious than neoprene.

Rowley envisions her customer wearing these sporty separates for surfing, running, or SoulCycling, and then pairing them with ready-to-wear pieces for other occasions. For the lookbook, which was shot in a gym, Rowley styled the activewear with pretty, embellished pieces. A digital-print floral sweatshirt and matching leggings were paired with a feather skirt. White flares went with a floral rash guard and topped off with an embellished vest. Rowley even designed 1-pound wrist weights that resemble chunky leather bracelets. Influences from 1970s are present throughout the collection, however the high-tech ideas buffer the retro leanings.


Many designers are currently turning activewear into fashion, yet Rowley may be at the forefront with her metallic racing-stripe leggings and floral sneakers.  "All the lines are blurred," she said. And if this collection was meant to help blur them even further, she's on the right path.
